Tidepools Magazine announces winners of 2018 contest

PORT ANGELES — Tidepools Magazine has announced the winners of the 2018 contest, which involved artists, writers photographers and musicians from communities across the North Olympic Peninsula.

The magazine is a student-edited publication produced at Peninsula College.

Tidepools accepts submissions every year from October to January.

This year’s issue will be released in June and will be available in local book stores.

Here are this year’s winners.

Youth Art 0-9: First place,“Curly Owl” by Eve Dry of Port Angeles.

Youth Art 10-13: First place, “Tauros Nitram” by Madison Larson of Forks.

Youth Art 14-17: First place, “Dragon” by Isabelle Sill of Port Angeles.

Youth Writing 10-13: First place, “The Hideout” by Kara Heisler of Port Angeles.

Adult Photography: First place, “Little Bandits” by Shelby Eggert of Port Angeles; second place, “Between the Two of Us” by Richard Kohler of Port Angeles; third place, “Facetime” by Ken Dry of Port Angeles.

Adult Art: First place, “Sasquatch Veteran” by Bonnie Clark of Port Angeles; second place: “Clallam County Courthouse” by Shirley Mercer of Sequim; third place: “Mana-tea” by Bonnie Clark of Port Angeles.

Adult Poetry: First place: “Four Recognitions” by Mark Valentine of Port Townsend; second place, “Times Change” by Howard Chadwick of Sequim; third place, “Airplane Intimacies” by Nancy Fowler of Port Townsend.

Adult Prose: First place, “One Potato, Two Potatoes” by Judith Duncan of Carlsborg; second place, “Ozark” of Eric Dieterle of Port Angeles; third place, “The Alice Hat” by Vykki Morrison of Port Angeles.

Peninsula College Student Photography: First place, “Destruction” by Valerie Dingman of Sequim; second place, “Aqua Veiled” by Kyle Vanous of Port Angeles; third place, “Carrie Blake” by Karlie Gochnour of Port Angeles.

Peninsula College Student Writing: First place: “The Guest” by Lilias Green of Sequim; second place, “If I Could Write a Poem” by Hannah Corey of Port Angeles; third place, “Old Olympic Speedway” by Zion Hilliker of Sequim.

Peninsula College Student Art: First place, “Displaced Fear” by Andrea Fergusson of Sequim; second plac,: “Pride in Life” by Logan Matlock of Sequim; third place, “Kylo Ren” by Gretchen Sotebeer of Port Angeles.

Music: First place, “Ruth’s Song” by Michael Rivers of Port Angeles; second place, “The Ones We Love” by Michael Rivers of Port Angeles; third place, “Distant Train” by Howly Slim of Port Angeles.
