‘Tip A Cop’ fundraiser nets $3,300 for Special Olympics

SEQUIM — The second annual “Tip A Cop” fundraiser netted more than $3,300 for Special Olympics of Washington on Thursday, Clallam County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ron Cameron said.

Law enforcement officers from the North Olympic Peninsula acted as celebrity waiters. They served food and interacted with customers at the Sequim Applebee’s on River Road.

Tips collected by the cops went to the Special Olympics.

Agencies that participated were the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol Port Angeles detachment, Port Townsend police and Sequim police.

Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict, Sequim Police Chief Bill Dickinson and Port Angeles Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher were on hand.

The Clallam County Orcas, a Special Olympics team, greeted customers as they arrived.

Last year, Clallam and Jefferson County law enforcement officers collected more than $2,500 in the event to finish second in the statewide fundraiser.

Not all of the agencies elsewhere have reported this year’s total. But among those that have — including Lynnwood, Bellingham and Federal Way — none has reported anything close to $3,300, Cameron said.

Cameron thanked all of the citizens who participated.
