SEQUIM — The elk herd that populates the area east of town is approaching U.S. Highway 101 again.
According to Tim Cullinan, wildlife program coordinator for the Point No Point Treaty Council, the elk moved across West Sequim Bay Road and traveled southeast toward Highway 101.
Cullinan’s most recent report has the herd between Johnson Creek and Whitefeather Way, about 200 yards from Highway 101.
This is the time of year the elk usually cross to the south side of the highway, he said, so motorists should be alert for elk along the stretch of highway between Happy Valley Road and the Sequim Bay Lodge to the east.
