PORT TOWNSEND — A deer entering a roadway Sunday caused a 30-minute traffic tangle after a motorcyclist was unable to avoid hitting the animal, according to State Patrol.
Ray Duffy, 61, of Wenatchee was traveling west on state Highway 20 near Eaglemount Road at 5:19 p.m. when the deer ran into his path from the eastbound shoulder into the westbound lane.
Duffy attempted to dodge the deer but was unable to avoid striking the animal, damaging his motorcycle in the process.
The westbound lane was closed for about 30 minutes as police cleared the scene.
Duffy was taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital, where he was treated and released.
The motorcycle, a blue Harley Davidson, was taken to All City Towing in Port Townsend and turned over to Duffy, who arranged for it to be towed to another location.
No charges were filed and there was no alcohol or drugs involved in the crash.
Information about what happened to the deer was not immediately available Monday.
