Traffic diverted in Port Angeles after rollover wreck

PORT ANGELES — A minivan flipped over onto its hood after it was clipped by a Hyundai Accent at the intersection of Tumwater Truck Route and Marine Drive in Port Angeles on Wednesday.

No one was seriously hurt in the 1:58 p.m. wreck, which blocked westbound traffic through the intersection for one hour.

Port Angeles police diverted passenger vehicles up Cedar Street and trucks up Lincoln Street.

Eastbound traffic was able to navigate through the intersection after the minivan was pushed out of the way by a patrol car, police said.

A passenger in the minivan, Sukhwinder Kaur-Virk of Port Angeles, was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles with unknown injuries, said Port Angeles Deputy Chief of Police Brian Smith.

Her condition was not immediately available, an OMC nursing supervisor said.

Witnesses said Kaur-Virk walked away from the scene.

The driver of the minivan, Pritpal Kaur of Port Angeles, was not injured.

Police said the driver of the Hyundai passenger car, John Morrison of Port Angeles, ran a red light as he made a left turn from the truck route onto Marine Drive.

Port Angeles Police Detective Kori Malone said the Hyundai appeared to have struck the driver’s side rear corner of the minivan.

The minivan was traveling westbound through a green light when the wreck occurred, Malone said.

Morrison was cited for failure to yield, Smith said.

Morrison was not injured.
