Trailer rolls over, blocks traffic near Elwha River bridge

PORT ANGELES — A large trailer rolled over near the U.S. Highway 101 bridge over the Elwha River and came to rest in the ditch just east of Olympic Hot Springs Road.

Highway 101 was completely shut down and traffic diverted Monday while the trailer was removed from the ditch.

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue was dispatched at 11:40 a.m. to the scene. Responding units found the trailer with a self-propelled lift in the ditch.

Since there was some smoke and electrical arcing after the rollover, as well as leaking fuel and hydraulic fluid, fire crews stood by while the trailer was extricated by several tow vehicles.
