PORT ANGELES — A nine-week program exploring tidepools will begin at the Feiro Marine Life Center on Thursday.
Classes meet Thursdays, with participants given a choice between two sessions: from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. or from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The training, which will be at the nonprofit marine life center on City Pier, fulfills the requirements for participants to volunteer at the center.
There is a $50 registration fee, and scholarships are available.
The program will include such hands-on learning experiences as plankton tows and beach seines, and a field trip to explore a tidepool.
Participants will learn, phylum by phylum, the marine animals that inhabit the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Volunteer opportunities may include working with visitors to the center as a naturalist, helping with school groups, sharing computer skills with the office staff, helping with exhibits and displays, or cleaning and caring for the exhibits.
For more information or to register, phone the marine life center at 360-417-6254 or visit www.feiromarinelifecenter.org.
The center is open daily for visitors from noon to 4 p.m.
