GIG HARBOR, Pierce County — Two bear traps baited with doughnuts and maple syrup remain set at Gig Harbor while state Fish and Wildlife Department agents look for the bear that attacked a woman.
Department spokesman Craig Bartlett said Tuesday the traps will remain this week. Agents plan to kill the bear because it attacked a person. They also want to test for disease.
A bear was reportedly sighted Monday near the Boys & Girls Club and students at nearby Discovery Elementary were kept inside for afternoon recess.
The Peninsula School District called for staffers Tuesday to keep students away from playgrounds near wooded areas.
The woman who was attacked Sunday while walking her dog in a wooded, rural area was treated for cuts and bites at a Tacoma hospital.
