Travelers disappointed about Horizon’s ultimate departure

PORT ANGELES –Travelers at William R. Fairchild International Airport were disappointed to learn Thursday evening that Horizon Air was stopping service after Jan. 6.

“No way! I think that’s terrible,” said Dorinda Worthey of Port Angeles.

“I’d much rather fly out of here. It’s much nicer than driving to Sea-Tac.”

Worthey said she flies a lot after recently moving to Port Angeles from Southern California.

Shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, North Olympic Peninsula business associations and Horizon Air teamed up to promote air travel out of Port Angeles — instead of catching flights at Sea-Tac International Airport.

“I’ve done it both ways, and I prefer flying out of Port Angeles,” said Worthey.

Ellen Norris of Port Angeles said she flies about six times a year.

She was on her way Thursday night to Mexico via a connecting flight in Seattle.

“Is anyone replacing them? It’s a heckuva long drive, and it will make it a little inconvenient,” Norris said.

“I’m in total shock. I’ll miss them. They were good to me. They are the best airline there is.”
