PORT ANGELES — The Halloween treats at Alan Turner’s downtown book store aren’t quite as sugary as goodies in nearby shops — and probably not nearly as sweet on his budget either.
Every year he spends hundreds of dollars to give away free books at Port Books and News and endures a slow-down of business each Halloween afternoon as kids swarm the downtown streets.
More than 1,700 kids and their parents filled shops on First Street on Wednesday afternoon to trick-or-treat, said Arla Holzschuh, head of the Port Angeles Downtown Business Association.
