PORT ANGELES — Douglas Eugene Baker operated a “fast, in-and-out” cocaine business for years from his Sequim home, selling mostly to his friends, Clallam County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Prentiss said Wednesday.
“In some sense, it was almost like a McDonald’s franchise,” Prentiss said. “Fast, convenient, in and out. Not the best cocaine, but convenient.”
Prentiss’ statements came during opening arguments Wednesday morning in Baker’s trial, being heard in Clallam County Superior Court before Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Thomas Majhan.
Twelve jurors and two alternates were selected Tuesday to hear the trial, which is expected to end next week.
Baker, 50, is charged with 14 counts of cocaine delivery, 14 counts of money laundering and one count of cocaine possession stemming from an Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team investigation that culminated in a raid of Baker’s 166 Old Dad’s Road home in March 2002.
