PORT ANGELES — The trial of a Port Angeles man accused of driving drunk when he caused a head-on wreck that killed an Ahousat, B.C., man in August has been postponed.
Steven W. Boyd, 48, is charged with vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault in the Aug. 25 death of Darrell E. Campbell on state Highway 112.
A one-week trial previously scheduled to begin Feb. 6 was delayed until April 2 during a court hearing Friday.
Defense attorney Alex Stalker said he needs time to discuss a current plea offer with his client and moved for a new status hearing.
Clallam County Superior Court Judge Ken Williams set a Feb. 10 status hearing and reset the trial for April.
The plea offer has not been made public.
Campbell, 49, was a member of the Ahousaht First Nation on Vancouver Island.
His family said he was on his way to a meeting in Neah Bay at the time of the crash.
Campbell was the front-seat passenger in a Ford Ranger that was struck head-on by an Isuzu Rodeo driven by Boyd near Place Road west of Port Angeles.
The State Patrol said Boyd had a 0.12 percent blood-alcohol level from a blood sample taken 95 minutes after the wreck and a 0.079 percent blood-alcohol level taken from a portable Breathalyzer about two hours after the wreck.
The legal limit in Washington state is 0.08 percent.
Boyd remains in custody at the Clallam County jail on $50,000 bond.
