PORT ANGELES — The trial of a Sequim resident accused of stabbing a man outside a Port Angeles bar earlier this month will begin Nov. 1.
The trial, expected to last five to seven days, was set Friday after David J. Harris pleaded not guilty in Clallam County Superior Court to a charge of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
Harris, 30, allegedly stabbed Ernesto Sanches Andalob at about 1:41 a.m. Sept. 4 outside the R Bar, 132 E. Front St.
Sanches Andalob, 23, has been released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He received a 1-inch deep stab wound in the back, which collapsed one of his lungs.
Police said it remains unclear why he was stabbed.
Authorities are declining to provide specifics on the case since the investigation is ongoing. They said they don’t want witnesses’ statements to be affected by what they read in news reports.
Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said detectives have a list of about 35 people to interview.
But what is known is that Harris was told to leave the bar earlier that evening.
The bar’s management told police Harris was kicked out of the business because “he had been a problem throughout the evening” and “was not getting along with other patrons,” said Detective Jason Viada.
Police have received no confirmation that Harris and Sanches Andalob had any contact prior to the stabbing, Viada said.
Harris remained in Clallam County jail Saturday, with bail set at $250,000.
