PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College’s Studium Generale program will present a special tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 12:35 p.m. today.
Eric C. Davis, also known as Professor E, a sociology faculty member at Bellevue College, will be the featured speaker at the presentation in the college’s Little Theater at the college at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
While an undergraduate at UCLA, Eric created his signature program, “RAP 101: The Message in the Music.”
Using hip-hop music as a catalyst for discussion, “RAP 101” fuses pop culture with critical thought on diversity and social justice.
At Bellevue, Davis now teaches introductory sociology in addition to sociology of blacks in America, race and ethnic relations, sociology of sport and popular culture.
From 2004 to 2009, Davis served as an academic adviser in the University of Washington athletic department.
Davis previously served as director of multicultural affairs at Seattle University and director of campus diversity at North Seattle Community College.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from University of California-Los Angeles and a master’s degree from Seattle University.
