SEQUIM — A journey through the Sequim-Dungeness Valley searching for the local herd of elk is a fun way to spend an hour or an afternoon.
The elk herd numbers more than 100. It was about half that size when it first started coming out of the more remote country south of Sequim 10 years ago.
You would think it would be easy to find a herd that size.
Not so.
Plan on trying several locations to catch a glimpse of the majestic animals.
The state Department of Fish & Wildlife likes to keep the herd on Burnt Hill.
But it often roams as far north as Graysmarsh and west to River Road.
