PORT TOWNSEND –– The deadline for entering scripts in the Port Townsend Arts Commission’s 19th annual one-act play competition is Tuesday.
The competition will culminate in March at PT PlayFest 19 produced by Key City Public Theatre, where local playwrights will see their work brought to life on stage.
Playwrights can submit one-act plays of any length from 10 to 60 minutes.
The judges will select as winners the best four to six plays from those submitted.
The competition is open only to residents of Jefferson County.
All entrants must submit three copies of their script.
Each submission must be accompanied by a single cover page bearing the title of the play along with the name, address, phone and email address of the author; the scripts themselves must have the title of the play only and no author information.
PlayFest participation
All winning plays from the 2014 competition will participate in PT PlayFest 19.
In addition, all winners will be honored by the Port Townsend Arts Commission at an awards ceremony prior to the opening of the annual festival performances.
After the results of the competition are announced, a reading will be arranged for each of the winning plays.
KCPT will provide the director for each script. Playwrights will be invited to refine, rewrite and polish the play prior to the rehearsal process.
The playwright is also invited to participate in the audition, rehearsal and performance process under the guidance of the artistic director.
Script entries must be postmarked no later than Tuesday. A $15 submission fee made out to “City of Port Townsend/PT Arts Commission” should accompany each entry.
Send entries to the Port Townsend Arts Commission, 250 Madison St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.
