PORT ANGELES – Closure of the Tumwater Truck Route for the Eighth Street bridges replacement project will continue through Friday.
The route, which closed on Wednesday, will reopen for weekend traffic on Saturday and Sunday before closing again on Monday and remaining closed through Friday, Dec. 7.
The closures are to allow workers with contractor Parsons RCI Inc. of Sumner to complete drilling holes and begin pouring concrete for the footings that will support the columns holding up the new Tumwater Creek bridge deck.
Next week, some equipment will be moved from the Tumwater Creek bridge site to the Valley Creek site to begin drilling holes for the footings for that bridge’s columns, said city spokeswoman Teresa Pierce.
Both the Tumwater Creek and Valley Creek bridges will have eight support columns each.
No work will be done on bridges during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, Pierce said.
Parsons is replacing two 70-year-old bridges over Tumwater and Valley creeks in an $18.4 million project that began in July and is expected to last about 15 months.
