Turn in weather leaves several in need of water rescue near Brinnon

BRINNON — Three people were rescued from the water near Brinnon on Sunday after the weather turned on a group of Adventure Scouts who were kayaking near Camp Parsons.

There were 16 kids and adult leaders who were all wearing flotation devices, said Tim Manly, chief of the Brinnon Fire Department.

The first 9-1-1 call went out at about 9:35 a.m. with a report of three people in the water.

Within about 45 minutes first responders had everyone out of the water, he said, adding that no one was in danger because everyone was prepared.

‘Knew what to do’

“They knew what to do and took good care of themselves,” he said. “They were all properly outfitted.”

Officials from the Brinnon Fire Department, Quilcene Fire Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident, he said.
