TV commercials touting Port Angeles, environs start airing in Seattle today

PORT ANGELES – A series of seven television commercials featuring local events is set to begin airing on Seattle stations today.

Port Angeles Television Productions is producing the commercials, which were written and narrated by Russ Veenema of the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce, said Darwin Gearey, owner of the TV production business.

The ads promote spring, summer and fall tourism for the area.

They will be broadcast on Seattle TV stations KIRO 7, KOMO 4, and KING/KONG 6/16 and Northwest Cable News, NWCN, Gearey said.

New versions of the 30-second spots will air through October.

The ads will feature “beauty shots” of Port Angeles, Olympic National Park, wildlife footage and film of local outdoor recreation such as kayaking, bicycling and hiking, Gearey said.

“There are some fairly dramatic shots of Olympic National Park, nice wildlife shots with Mount Olympus behind them, and a very dramatic shot of Hurricane Ridge Lodge,” Gearey said.

The ads include footage of the Olympics viewed from the east, which corresponds with the theme of inviting people who look at the mountains from a distance to come see them up close.

Each month’s events and festivals will be featured in the ads.

More than 20 events will be featured, Gearey said.

Among those will be Jazz In the Olympics, the Juan de Fuca Festival, the Olympic Cycling Classic, the Port Angeles Fourth of July celebration, Arts n’ Action, Strait Thunder Hydroplane Racing and the Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival.

The commercials will be seen throughout the Interstate Highway 5 corridor, as well as Eastern Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

An estimated 2 million people saw the chamber ads produced last year. Gearey said.

“This year, we’re using different shots,” he said.

“It’s an entirely new ad.”
