SEQUIM — Two Clallam County deputies were assaulted during a domestic violence call outside Sequim on Monday, Sheriff Bill Benedict said.
Deputies Michael Dick and Todd Yarnes were treated at Olympic Medical Center and were discharged Monday, Benedict said.
Ha-Qwenith Zachary Grinnell, 21, was booked into the Clallam County jail on investigation of felony harassment and two counts of assault in the third degree. He remained in custody Tuesday night on $50,000 bail.
The two deputies were assaulted at about 4 p.m. as they tried to detain Grinnell after receiving a report of domestic violence in the 100 block of Johnson Creek Road, said Chief Deputy Ron Cameron today.
Grinnell allegedly had threatened to kill a family member, Cameron said.
Grinnell struck and kicked the deputies with his hands and feet, Cameron said.
The deputies used electrical control devices and pepper spray to gain control of him.
Dick sustained a head laceration and extremity abrasions.
Yarnes sustained a slight concussion, facial scratches and abrasions to the arms and leg regions.
The Sheriff Office’s report was sent to the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which filed formal charges Tuesday.
Grinnell, a former Sequim High School football player, will be arraigned Friday at 1 p.m.
