Two held for mail-theft investigation in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Two people are being held in Clallam County jail for investigation of alleged mail theft, the Port Angeles Police Department reported today.

A statement by the Police Department identified the two suspects as Jennifer Rory Leroy, 32, and Holly Eileen Baker, 40, both of Port Angeles.

The arrests stem from a report late Monday afternoon that neighbors on Walnut Street saw two people going through mailboxes. The reporting person provided a license plate number and description of a black SUV that the people were driving. Additional reports told of discarded UPS boxes near Walnut Street.

The SUV was located on the 700 block of East Seventh Street. A search warrant was obtained and allegedly stolen UPS boxes, toys, opened Christmas cards and stolen mail from several Port Angeles addresses were found inside the vehicle, police said.

Mail and UPS boxes were also found from areas outside the city limit. Officers were assisted by citizens who came forward by contacting law enforcement and identifying the suspects, a police spokesman said.

Port Angeles Police Officer Glen Wood and Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputies Ken Oien and Ryan Keith worked jointly on the case, and the investigation continues.
