JOYCE — Two people were reported safe on shore after their boat capsized off Observation Point in Freshwater Bay, according to the U.S. Coast Guard public affairs office in Seattle.
The Coast Guard received a distress call at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday about a capsized sailing vessel with two people aboard in Freshwater Bay, said Petty Officer Steve Strohmaier, U.S. Coast Guard spokesman in Seattle.
A 45-foot boat and a helicopter were dispatched from the Coast Guard base on Ediz Hook, he said.
A sheriff’s deputy arrived first and boarded a good Samaritan vessel to try to find the vessel, Strohmaier said. The deputy spotted the 12-foot vessel a quarter mile off Observation Point in Freshwater Bay but no one was seen in the water, he said.
The helicopter conducted an aerial search in conjunction with the 45-foot boat but the deputy located the two people on shore, Strohmaier said.
