SEQUIM — Two people were treated at a hospital after a sport utility vehicle rolled over near U.S. Highway 101 after it left the roadway near Sequim.
Johnny D. Harris, 68, of Naches and Trisha L. Mulyahill, 22, of Sequim were transported with non-life-threatening injuries to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles once they were extricated from the SUV after the 5:10 p.m. Thursday wreck, according to the State Patrol.
Both had been discharged as of Friday morning, according to hospital staff.
The State Patrol is investigating if the cause of the wreck was a medical emergency on the part of Harris, who was driving a black 2002 Ford Explorer westbound on U.S. Highway 101 into the River Road exit.
Account of wreck
The State Patrol gave this account of the wreck:
The Explorer crossed over the triangular area where roads merge or split and across the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101, the median and into oncoming eastbound traffic.
The Explorer then left the south side of the eastbound lanes and traveled down the embankment through a fence westbound onto Turnstone Lane, which runs parallel to U.S. Highway 101 on the south side.
It left Turnstone Lane to the north, struck several trees and traveled back through the fence before rolling over and coming to a rest on its top in the grassy area between Turnstone Lane and Highway 101 about a half-mile west of the River Road exit.
Clallam County Fire District No. 3 firefighters used hydraulic cutting tools to pry open the doors on either side of the vehicle and cut the two occupants, who were hanging upside-down, from their seat belts, Chief Ben Andrews said while on the scene of the wreck.
One lane of eastbound U.S. 101 was closed to through traffic during the emergency operations.
The State Patrol said troopers did not suspect drugs or alcohol as contributors to the wreck.
The Explorer was destroyed, the State Patrol said.
Officers with the Sequim Police Department assisted at the wreck.
