PORT ANGELES – A possibly speeding driver rolled his SUV in the Morse Creek grade on U.S. Highway 101, resulting in a long traffic backup and causing a septic truck to drive off the roadway, according to information from the Washington State Patrol.
A 2001 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Wade E. Stark, 37, Port Angeles was westbound on U.S. Highway 101 on Tuesday afternoon when it struck the center median, rolled and came to rest on its wheels in the eastbound lanes, State Patrol Trooper Katherine Weatherwax wrote in a Wednesday morning email.
The vehicle rolled an unknown number of times and the vehicle was heavily damaged, she wrote, adding the cause likely will be found to be speed too fast for conditions.
Stark was transported to Olympic Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the State Patrol. He was treated and discharged, according to OMC spokeswoman Bobby Beeman.
In the ensuing traffic backup on eastbound U.S. Highway 101 about a quarter mile from the initial wreck a septic truck went into the ditch to avoid striking the car in front of it, Weatherwax wrote. That driver called a tow truck on his own.
