Members of an art class at the Clallam County Family YMCA in Port Angeles attended a one-day workshop Thursday to learn how to make Ukrainian eggs.
The colorful and delicate art form, taught by Melody Charno of Port Angeles, is part of the ongoing art programs by art director Lisa Shindler at the YMCA at Third and Francis streets.
Warm beeswax is drawn on the eggs with a tool called a kitska, then the eggs are dyed in a variety of colors until the desired patterns are achieved.
Each color on the egg can have its own pattern of wax applied by the artist to personalize the effect.
After the desired effect is reached, the wax is melted off the egg with a candle to expose the pattern and then coated with polyurethane.
