CHIMACUM — An unoccupied travel trailer was consumed by flames on Center Road earlier this week.
East Jefferson Fire Rescue (EJFR) firefighters alerted to the fire by residents of a nearby house on Center Road about 1 mile south of state Highway 19 arrived at 9:35 p.m. Monday to find the trailer ablaze.
The fire was extinguished within a half-hour, firefighters reported, with assistance from Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue, Quilcene Fire Rescue and Naval Magazine Indian Island.
The cause remained under investigation on Wednesday.
No one was hurt.
“The heavy rain helped suppressed the fire so it did not spread into the surrounding grass and trees before units arrived,” said Phyllis Speser, public information officer for EJFR.
“It is a good reminder that with wildfire season approaching, now is a good time to follow the National Fire Protection Agency’s guidelines on how to prepare your property to mitigate the threat wildfire damage. You can find the NFPA guidelines on the East Jefferson Fire Rescue website under ‘Information.’”
