UPDATE — All lanes now open on Highway 101 at Deer Park Road

Update — All lanes were opened at 1:15 p.m. today after a wreck prompted the closure of one lane of U.S. Highway 101 at Deer Park Road.

PORT ANGELES — One lane of U.S. Highway 101 at Deer Park Road remained closed at 12:28 p.m. today after a wreck.

A rear-end collision on Deer Park Road pushed a vehicle onto Highway 101, where it clipped an eastbound Clallam Transit bus at 11:18 a.m. today.

There were no serious injuries, a State Patrol spokesman said.

The state Department of Transportation reduced eastbound traffic to one lane at 11:30 a.m. The right eastbound lane remained blocked at 12:28 p.m.

“We had a hit-and-run up there,” said Trooper Russ Winger, State Patrol spokesman.

“A guy driving a Lexus rear-ended another passenger car driven by a female. It pushed the car into a Clallam County Transit bus.

“The guy driving the Lexus took off and ended up crashing into a tree at 355 Twin Firs Road.”

A trooper responded from the nearby State Patrol office on Highway 101 and arrested the driver of the Lexus, a 60-year-old Port Angeles man, about 10 minutes after the wreck.

The arrest was made on Twin Firs Estates Drive, which is about one mile south of the highway off Deer Park Road.

“The trooper did make an arrest for at least a hit-and-run,” Winger said.

“That’s what we have right now.”

Names of the drivers and the passengers involved in the wreck, some of whom were taken to Olympic Medical Center with minor injuries, were not immediately available.
