FORKS — A roughly 7,500-square-foot state Department of Natural Resources building was left in ruins this morning after a towering fire engulfed the structure in the predawn hours.
Clallam County Fire District No. 1 crews got the call at about 12:19 a.m. and arrived at 411 Tillicum Lane to find a partially involved fire at the DNR maintenance building and mechanics shop, Fire Chief Bill Paul said.
Three District 1 crews and Clallam County Fire District No. 6 Chief Jeff Baysinger fought the blaze for about four hours, Paul said.
Firefighters were still on scene as of about 10:30 this morning tamping down flare ups.
No injuries were reported, and the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, Paul said. The structure was destroyed.
Paul could not estimate the value of the lost structure or its contents and said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
In addition to a maintenance and mechanics shop, Paul said the building also housed a shipment receiving area and information technology equipment.
The destroyed building was the smaller of two on the property, Paul added.
