PORT TOWNSEND — Craddock D. Verser, who served as Jefferson County Superior Court judge for two terms prior to retiring in 2012, died Saturday night, according to a county commissioner.
“Judge Verser was a great influence on the law and the community,” Commissioner John Austin said.
“We are sorry to see him go.”
Verser was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011, which precipitated his retirement.
Verser, who had a long legal career in Jefferson County, was appointed to the bench in 2004 after the death of Thomas Majhan, then won election in his own right later that year.
Austin said that he will call for a moment of silence in Verser’s honor at Monday’s commissioners meeting, which begins at 9 p.m. in chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.
