Update: High winds diminishing on West End, continue around Port Townsend-Hood Canal until tonight

High winds on the West End are diminishing this afternoon, but gusts will remain in the Port Townsend and Hood Canal areas until this evening.

Here are the latest National Weather Service advisories:

A HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM PST THIS

AFTERNOON.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS…HOQUIAM…CLEARWATER…FORKS…AND

NEAH BAY.

* WINDS…SOUTH AT 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH UNTIL EARLY

AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS…THE DAMAGING WINDS WILL LIKELY RESULT IN POWER

OUTAGES AND DOWNED TREES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS THAT A HAZARDOUS WIND EVENT IS IMMINENT

OR OCCURRING. HIGH WINDS CAN TOPPLE TREES…DOWN POWER LINES…

AND DESTROY PROPERTY.

THE WIND ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PST THIS EVENING.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS…EVERETT…SEATTLE…TACOMA…

BRINNON…LACEY…TOLEDO…AND MONTESANO.

* WINDS…SOUTH WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO

50 MPH MID AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE INTO THE EARLY EVENING HOURS.

* IMPACTS…WINDS THIS STRONG CAN CAUSE SOME POWER OUTAGES AS

WELL AS TOPPLE TREES.

A WIND ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 TO 39 MPH OR

GUSTS OF 45 TO 57 MPH ARE LIKELY. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN SNAP

SMALL TREE BRANCHES…TOPPLE SMALL OR SHALLOW-ROOTED TREES…AND

CAUSE LOCAL POWER OUTAGES.

The tug was built for the U.S. Army at Peterson SB in Tacoma in 1944. Originally designated TP-133, it is currently named Island Champion after going through several owners since the army sold it in 1947. It is now owned by Debbie Wright of Everett, who uses it as a liveaboard.
