PYSHT — A man who was pronounced dead after a one-car crash today on state Highway 112 was Ronald P. Markishtum Sr., 71, a Makah elder.
He was identified by Makah tribal Chairman Michael Lawrence and the State Patrol.
Markishtum’s 1989 Ford Taurus rolled over at about 10 a.m. today at Milepost 31, one mile east of Pillar Point Road and about 14 miles east of Clallam Bay.
He was pronounced dead by medics.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation. The State Patrol said Markishtum was eastbound when his car veered across the westbound lane into a ditch. The car traveled about 30 feet, struck a small tree and rolled onto its top.
No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles were involved, the State Patrol said.
The westbound lane of the highway was blocked until 1:50 p.m.
