FORKS — A person apparently died in a mobile-home fire on Palmer Road early this morning in the second of two fires within three hours on the West End.

The second fire was called in at 7:27 a.m., Clallam County Fire District No. 1 Chief Phil Arbeiter said at 10:15 a.m.

Authorities could not identify the gender of the person or whether it was an adult or child, he said.

The person was found outside the bedroom of the structure.

No one was injured in the earlier fire at 250 Richwine Road, between Forks and LaPush, that engulfed an unoccupied single-wide manufactured home, District No. 6 Fire Chief Jeff Baysinger said.

The fire was called in at about 4:05 a.m., he said. Five first-responders and two engines responded.

Though no one was living in the structure, the electricity was on, Baysinger said.

The department will not be investigating the blaze under the “good assumption” that it was probably caused by an electrical malfunction, he added.

“We don’t investigate unless we have reason to believe it was arson or something suspicious, but this doesn’t seem suspicious by any means,” Baysinger said.

“An investigation is up to the insurance company,” he added.
