UPDATE — Police find handgun in car of PA man arrested in connection with vehicular assault

PORT ANGELES — Police discovered a stolen motorcycle and arrested a woman for investigation of possession of methamphetamine while executing a search warrant today at the auto body shop owned by Timothy P. Smith.

Smith, 27, was charged today in Clallam Count Superior Court with first-degree rendering criminal assistance for allegedly driving Micahel J. Moyle from the scene of a hit-and-run Wednesday and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Port Angeles police will recommend that Smith be charged for possession of the stolen motorcycle, Sgt. Barb McFall said.

McFall said Smith owns the shop, located in east Port Angeles on Elwha Road.

The 44-year-old woman arrested on the drug charge, Tammy R. Coburn, happened to be at the shop when police executed the search warrant.

Moyle, who police said intentionally rammed a sedan carrying two adults and two small children on South Laurel Street, remains at large.

McFall said Moyle, 28, is homeless. His last known residence has been searched, she said.

As of 4:45 p.m., police were executing a search warrant at Smith’s home on South Cherry Street.

Smith’s bail was set today at $50,000.

He will be arraigned April 22.

PORT ANGELES — Unlawful possession of a firearm will be added to the booking charges against Timothy Patrick Smith, who was taken into custody Thursday in connection with a vehicle assault on Wednesday, police said.

Smith, 27, will appear in Clallam County Superior Court at 1 p.m. today.

He was arrested for investigation of rendering criminal assistance in the first degree after he turned himself in to police.

Port Angeles police Sgt. Barb McFall said police, while executing a search warrant on Smith’s truck, found a .25-caliber handgun.

Smith, a convicted felon, is barred from possessing a firearm, she said.

At the Clallam County court appearance today, bail and an arraignment date will be set.

Police said this morning that Port Angeles resident Michael J. Moyle, who is alleged to have intentionally rammed a Subaru sedan carrying two adults and two small children on South Laurel Street, remains at large.

Smith of Port Angeles allegedly drove Moyle from the scene of the wreck.

Police said Moyle, wanted on investigation of four counts of first-degree assault, chased the Subaru from Albertsons at Lauridsen Boulevard and Lincoln Street before ramming it at high speed with his Ford Mustang.

Four people were hospitalized.

A 5-year-old boy in the back seat of the Subaru was listed in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center on Thursday after suffering a head injury and broken leg.

Tawny Baker, a front-seat Subaru passenger, was in stable condition Thursday at OMC.

A 1-year-old girl and the driver of the Subaru, Stewart M. Baker, were treated and discharged from Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles on Wednesday.

Moyle, 28, is described as 6-feet-3-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes.

Police are requesting that anyone who can provide information about Moyle’s location or the case in general to phone them at 360-452-4545 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).

Crime Stoppers can pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest with the filing of felony charges. Information can be given anonymously.
