The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office confirmed today that an announced hopeful for the top prosecutor post in Clallam County was arrested Monday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for investigation of intoxicated driving and possession of drugs.
Undersheriff Ron Peregrin said Port Angeles attorney David R. Fox was booked into King County jail for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a restricted drug without a prescription and driving while intoxicated.
Sgt. John Urquhart, a spokesman for the King County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that Fox was arrested by the Port of Seattle Police Department at the airport.
The Associated Press reported this afternoon that Fox allegedly brandished a knife at the airport.
A Port of Seattle police report says a ticket agent called authorities late Sunday to say a man wearing a floppy hat and Hawaiian shirt had repeatedly pulled out a knife and was asking “weird questions.”
The man returned to his truck, which was parked on the airport drive. An officer pulled him over and identified him as David Fox.
“The driver was unsteady on his feet and kept repeating the same questions, telling me over and over that I need to call the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office so they could tell me who he was and that he was running for office,” the report said. “He told me over and over that he is an attorney, and that I have no right to stop him.”
Another officer spotted a marijuana pipe on the passenger’s seat, and a search turned up a bag of marijuana and prescription pills for which Fox had no prescription, the report said.
Bail was set today at $3,000, AP reported.
It wasn’t immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
Fox was recently investigated for allegations of sexual misconduct with a client and introducing contraband to Clallam County jail. Fox has said he intends to file as a candidate for Clallam County prosecuting attorney during the filing period this week. He has not filed as of this afternoon. Deadline at the courthouse in Port Angeles is 4:30 p.m. Friday.
