UPDATE: Power out in much of Clallam County

PORT ANGELES — Portions of Port Angeles and about 8,000 customers of the North Olympic Peninsula’s West End are without power following a spate of gusty winds that’s part of a storm.

As of about 11 p.m., about 800 homes and businesses were without power, said Glenn Cutler, Port Angeles city public works and utilities director. He expected most of those would have juice back around midnight.

Earlier in the evening, power in Port Angeles was out west of Tumwater Creek and north of Lauridsen Boulevard as well as at several high-profile locations such as Albertsons supermarket at Lauridsen and Lincoln Street.

Parts of the city experienced a half-second outage around 6:30 p.m. Some computers producing Thursday’s editions of the Peninsula Daily News were blacked out.

Clallam County Public Utility District reported outages in Forks, Clallam Bay, Sekiu and Neah Bay, affecting approximately 8,000 customers. This outage is due to a problem on another Bonneville Power Administration transmission line between Port Angeles and Forks.

Repairs will be made by a BPA crew, which will be arriving from Olympia. A PUD spokesman said there is no forecast for power restoration at this time.
