SEQUIM — Sequim police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the early morning hours Friday at the Sequim West Motel, 740 W. Washington St.
Det. Sgt. Sean Madison said the victim reported a woman knocked on the door of his rented room at 3:45 a.m. The woman, said police, was known to the victim.
When the victim opened the door, an armed man unknown to him pushed his way in, demanding money and valuables.
Madison said the unknown man was armed with a small handgun.
No shots were fired.
After collecting the victim’s money and other items that police declined to name, the pair fled the room. Madison estimated the victim’s loss at about $2,000.
They left the victim alone and no injuries were reported.
Madison stressed that the incident does not mean Sequim has an “armed pair running around robbing people.” Police believe the victim was targeted and that the alleged robbers knew he had some items of value.
When asked if illegal drugs were involved, Madison said that they often are a part of this kind of incident. He declined to confirm that drugs were related to this particular incident.
While not named specifically as a suspect, police are looking for a woman identified as Shelby Schleve, age 20-25, of unknown residence. Police described her as about 5 foot 9, 160 pounds.
The male suspect was described as a little taller, 5 foot 9 to 5 foot 10, weighing 210 to 240 pounds.
The victim told police he was wearing sunglasses and a bandanna.
Anyone with information about about either person is asked to contact the Sequim Police Department at 360-683-7227.
