UPDATE — Waterfront Trail reopens in Port Angeles after week-long closure because of landslide

PORT ANGELES — The portion of the Olympic Discovery Trail blocked by a landslide for the better part of a week was open Saturday.

Corey Delikat, the city’s parks and recreation director, said Friday that crews had cleared enough trees and other debris to allow walkers, joggers and bicyclists to pass.

Rocks, dirt and as many as 25 trees slid down the hillside and onto the path between City Pier and Francis Street Park last Sunday. Debris covered about 30 feet of the popular trail that follows a former railroad grade on the water’s edge.

The portion of trail — called the Waterfront Trail as it runs through Port Angeles — had been closed for most of last week from just east of the Red Lion Hotel to just west of Francis Street Park.
