FORKS — A 59-year-old Forks man was killed Wednesday in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 101 near Snider Road between Lake Crescent and Forks
After press time for the print edition Wednesday night, the State Patrol identified the victim as Leon Roger Braithwaite. He was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck, which was destroyed.
Trooper Krista Hedstrom, State Patrol spokeswoman, said snowy, icy weather was probably not a factor.
“The sergeant at the scene said the roadway in that area is not icy,” Hedstrom said.
Hedstrom said speed likely played a factor in the collision.
The wreck occurred at about 4:30 p.m., and Hedstrom confirmed the fatality at 5:22 p.m.
“There was one occupant in the vehicle,” Hedstrom said.
According to a trooper’s report, the truck left the highway, rolled over and struck a tree.
A witness told troopers the man was driving erratically before the wreck.
The witness pulled over and came to the aid of the driver, who was trapped in the car. The witness could not find a pulse on the driver, Hedstrom said.
It was unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved, Hedstrom said.
