KELLOGG, IDAHO —
A Port Angeles, Wash., man has been charged in Shoshone County, Idaho, with manslaughter in the beating of another man at Silver Mountain Resort.
Brett McCallister, 39, was released from Shoshone County Jail on Monday after posting a $20,000 bond, a jail officer said.
Eric G. Crouse, 42, was airlifted from the resort on Friday to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene and died there Saturday from injuries in the beating. An autopsy was conducted Monday.
Kellogg police are investigating the incident, which occurred at the resort’s ski lodge at the base of Silver Mountain in Kellogg.
Shoshone County Magistrate Court judge Daniel McGee set McCallister’s bail at $20,000 on several conditions including twice-weekly urine analysis.
Details surrounding motive for the killing remain unclear as McGee made a motion to seal the case’s affidavit.
The case’s criminal complaints states that McCallister “did willfully and in a sudden quarrel or heat of passion, but without malice or aforethought and premeditation, kill Eric G. Crouse.”
Crouse’s hometown was not listed.
Court minutes show that McCallister’s request for a public defender was denied by McGee.
McCallister told the court that for the last two years he has worked for mass transit, but an exact description of his job and his employer was unclear.
McCallister was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 13.
