SEQUIM – Kevin Van De Wege talked a lot about renewable energy during his campaign. He values it in his personal life, too.
Youth has something to do with it – the firefighter-turned-state-lawmaker is just 32 – but when you ask him to name one person, alive or historical, who galvanizes him most, he reveals the other primary source of that energy.
“My wife is an inspiration to me, every day. She’s compassionate. She’s organized. She’s consistently on track, a multi-tasker. And she is a wonderful mother to our children,” he said.
He met Jennifer Van De Wege 11 years ago in Seattle on St. Patrick’s Day.
“We consider that our lucky day,” she said.
These days, however, the couple’s not seeing much of each other.
He lives throughout the week in Shelton, in a mother-in-law apartment at her aunt and uncle’s house.
From there he commutes to the Capitol in Olympia for 12-hour days.
