PORT ANGELES — The Coast Guard medevaced a 10-year-old boy with burns from Toleak Point.
A Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 rescue helicopter crew airlifted the boy and his mother to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles early Saturday morning.
The two were not identified, out of concern for their privacy.
Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound watchstanders received a request for assistance from the National Park Service at 10:50 p.m. Friday.
The boy reportedly had second degree burns on both feet and a portion of his left leg.
At 12:18 a.m., an Air Station Port Angeles MH-65 crew launched and arrived on scene at 12:50 a.m.
Toleak Point is 6.4 miles from the Third Beach Trailhead in Olympic National Park.
Due to the remote location, the boy and his mother were hoisted into the helicopter at 1 a.m. and transported for further medical assistance.
The Coast Guard encourages people exploring remote locations to use the buddy system and carry a cell phone or signaling device in case of an emergency.
