PORT TOWNSEND — The grounds surrounding the landmark downtown Haller Fountain are about to get bigger and better, says Bonnie Corra.
Corra is the widow of Steve Corra, the former city parks supervisor who envisioned improvements up the hill behind the landmark Washington Street fountain.
The project has been dedicated to Mr. Corra, and the Steve Corra Memorial Committee is looking to raise an additional $25,000 in funds to put into the park in the coming year.
When all is said and done, the total amount of improvements to the Haller Fountain will be more than $54,000.
Bonnie Corra said the newest planned additions will focus on the top part of the park near the flagpole halfway up the stairs.
“We are planning to redo the cement up there,” Corra said.
“We want to put in a nice bench near the flagpole and also create a bulletin board kiosk where people can learn about the fountain, the city’s parks and about Steve.”
