PORT ANGELES — Once straight and heavily littered with household appliances and trash, a 1,405-foot segment of Valley Creek now gently meanders under foot bridges, providing clean habitat for fish.
A park-like setting of riparian habitat has been created on 3.5 acres south of Valley Street near the heart of downtown.
Valley Creek restoration project funding has largely resulted from environmental incidents — proceeds from state Department of Ecology fines have been dedicated to mitigating habitat harmed in the harbor by oil and sewage spills.
