PORT ANGELES — Low water levels in Morse Creek led the Clallam County Public Utility District to declare a stage four water shortage for the Fairview Water System.
That means that PUD customers on the Fairview system are prohibited from using outdoor water, including watering lawns or washing vehicles.
The Fairview Water System includes the areas between Deer Park Road east to Shore Road, and Township Line Road north to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
A water shortage is declared when Mores Creek runs below 25 cubic feet per second.
On Monday, it was running at about 20.8 cubic feet per second, said Mike Kitz, water and wastewater systems superintendent.
Kitz said he was unsure when the shortage could end.
“It is all based on the weather,” he said.
“Since it is supposed to be very nice through Wednesday, I don’t know.
“But Thursday through Sunday, we’re supposed to see the wet patterns coming through.”
In addition to the mandatory outdoor conservation the district also made recommendations for indoor conservation:
The shortage affects only the Fairview Water System and will remain in effect until rain brings the water level higher than 25 cubic feet per second.
