The National Weather Service today issued a warning for lighting-created forest fires for much of the North Olympic Peninsula.
The warning will last from 2 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Sunday.
It covers the Peninsula as far west as Clallam Bay, but doesn’t include the West End.
The Weather Service issued the warning because of the dry conditions and unusually strong lightning storms that might hit the East End of the Peninsula this evening.
Hot temperatures on the Peninsula next week would allow any fires to spread more quickly, the Weather Service said.
The warning also covers the Puget Sound area and Cascade Mountains, where the lighting storms are expected to be concentrated.
