PORT TOWNSEND — Veteran actor John Considine will introduce his novel A War, about a boy growing up in Beverly Hills during World War II, at the Writers’ Workshoppe this Saturday.

Admission is free to the 7 p.m. event, while signed copies of A War will be available for purchase at the venue, 234 Taylor St.

Considine lives with his wife of 28 years, Astrid, in Port Townsend, having retired from a career that encompassed more than 100 television appearances, 30 movies and 2½ years portraying the billionaire Reginald Love on daytime TV’s “Another World.”

He’s also the screenwriter behind the Robert Altman-directed film “A Wedding” and the author of the memoir Improvising: My Life & Show Business, though A War is his first novel.

This latest is more than a coming-of-age story, Considine told interviewer Dave Chappuis on the website www.Everything-Dave.com.

“It’s a book that describes, I think on a pretty deep level, the social forces at work in a World War II Catholic Beverly Hills family,” Considine said.
