12-year-old speaker
PORT TOWNSEND — Twelve-year-old motivational speaker Milo Cress of Boulder, Colo., will talk to students and adults about environmental sustainability today and Saturday.
Today, Milo will speak at Sunfield Farm and Waldorf School, 111 Sunfield Lane, Port Hadlock, at 9 a.m. and at Chimacum Elementary School, 91 West Valley Road, at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, he will make a presentation at the Port Townsend Farmers Market, corner of Lawrence and Tyler streets, at 2 p.m.
Milo has garnered a national reputation as an environmental activist and won awards for inventions and his initiative to reduce plastic waste through a “Be Straw Free” campaign, which he started when he was 9.

Work party at Kah Tai
PORT TOWNSEND — A Kah Tai Lagoon Nature Park work party is slated at the park, 12th and Haines streets, on Sunday.
Join the team anytime between 9 a.m. and noon.
Volunteers will pull scotch broom and pick up trash.
To join the party, park at the lot near the bathrooms and walk east toward the Benedict Street entrance southeast of the small pond. Look for a white Chevy pickup truck with the bright-green volunteer sign.
Wear work clothes and bring work gloves. Bring pruners if possible.

SEQUIM — Veteran Master Gardener Betsy Burlingame will present “Basic Composting for the Home Gardener” at the Master Gardeners’ Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Burlingame will discuss the essentials of making compost, what it takes to maintain it and the benefits of it.
Master Gardener Bill Teel will demonstrate what’s involved in making compost.
Visitors can learn about putting together worm bins, what to feed worms and how to keep worms producing Vermil compost.
Waste Reduction Specialist Meggan Uecker will be available on hand for further information and will have handouts on reducing and reusing.

Klallam art show
PORT ANGELES — The Lower Elwha Klallam tribe will open an art show and present a panel discussion today at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 E. First St.
The public is invited to the opening from noon to 6 p.m. today and to the artists’ discussion at 4:30 this afternoon.
With paintings, carvings, prints and jewelry by Roger Fernandes, Linda Wiechman, Alfred Charles Jr. and Darrell Charles, the exhibit is a response to the freeing of the Elwha River through removal of the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams.
The Klallam art show will stay on display through next Friday, May 30.

The meal is $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens, $1 for children younger than 6 and free to pilots.
Proceeds from the fly-in lunch will go to the Rocky Hinkle Memorial Scholarship Fund.
