PORT TOWNSEND — “Landscape of the Mind.” “Fire Inside the Heart.” The “Deep Blue.”
Looks like passions will flow freely during the next Gallery Walk.
In this free event from 5:30 p.m. to about 8 p.m. Saturday, art shows will open, beverages will be poured and artists will engage art lovers. It’s Port Townsend’s monthly tour of galleries, including:
■ Gallery Nine, the artists’ cooperative at 1012 Water St., with Marie Delaney’s “Landscape of the Mind,” a series of nine paintings portraying nine facets of the human psyche. The large canvases include “Intuition,” “Obsession” and “Incorrigible Mind.” Delaney and other Gallery Nine artists will be on hand for an opening reception Saturday evening; the venue is also open from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
■ The Red Raven Gallery, 922 Water St., with featured artist Counsel Langley and her series of works inspired by “Nights on Planet Earth,” a poem by Campbell McGrath.
Langley’s paintings and drawings mix acrylics, graphite, ink, glitter and recycled materials. Langley’s display will stay at the Red Raven till March 1.
■ The Max Grover Gallery, 630 Water St., with “Fire Inside the Heart,” Linda Okazaki’s new show exploring dreamscapes and the land, sky and waters of the Pacific Northwest. In addition, “The Egyptian Portal,” novelist Rikki Ducornet’s essay about Okazaki’s art, will be for sale alongside original paintings and archival prints. After Saturday evening’s opening reception, the Max Grover Gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 till 6 Friday and Saturday.
■ The Port Townsend Gallery, 715 Water St., with Sylvia White and Diane Holmes’ art exploring an oceanic theme. “Deep Blue,” a blend of copper, kelp and other sea life, is one of White’s assemblages on display.
Holmes, meanwhile, combines watercolors and acrylics to paint creatures such as koi – and pours resin over them to give the viewer a feeling of motion. “Peace Gathering” is one of her pieces showing this technique.
■ The Northwind Arts Center, 2409 Jefferson St., presents “The Figure,” a show of sculptures, paintings and drawings by Rita Kepner, Elizabeth Jameson and Maitland Hardyman. The “Figure” artists will gather at Saturday’s reception and then give a free talk on their work at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. For more on the center and its activities, visit NorthwindArts.org.
