PORT ANGELES — “Ferments and Fromage 2014,” a benefit for Operation Uplift sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Title Co., will be held at the Sons of Norway Scandia Hall, 131 W. Fifth St., at 4:30 p.m. today.
The third annual wine-and-cheese event’s tickets are $10 in advance or at the door.
Beer, wine, fruit, cheese, a raffle and a silent dessert auction are planned.
Operation Uplift is a Port Angeles-based cancer support group that offers education, information, support meetings, a 24-hour phone line, free clinics, prostheses and wigs for women and men with cancer.

Horticulture workshop
PORT ANGELES — A free Hugelkultur (hill culture) workshop will be held at the Fifth Street Community Garden, 328 E. Fifth St., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Led by Meggan Uecker, WSU Clallam County Extension waste reduction coordinator, and Clallam County Master Composters, attendees will learn the art and science of this technique through hands-on participation in building Clallam’s first Hugelkultur demonstration.

Outdoor Club hike
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Outdoor Club will hike the Geyser Valley Trail on Sunday.
This is a moderately easy hike of 7.8 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of 600 feet and a high point of 1,300 feet.

Sons of Norway dance
PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Norway host a dance with instruction from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Sunday.
All ages are welcome to the lodge at 131 W. Fifth St. for an evening of ballroom, swing and folk dancing.

Bunco party slated
SEQUIM — A bunco fundraiser will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., from 11:30 p.m. to 3:30 today,
The cost is a $12 donation, which will go toward uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Roller derby bout
SEQUIM — Port Scandalous Roller Derby will present its second bout of the season at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Port Scandalous Strait Shooters will go up against the Dockyard Derby Dames’ Marauding Mollys from Tacoma at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula at 400 W. Fir St.

Fort Worden trail walk
PORT TOWNSEND — The Olympic Peninsula Explorers will host a Fort Worden/Cappy Trails walk at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The walk is 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles).
The 5K walk is entirely within Fort Worden State Park. The 10K also travels through residential areas of Port Townsend entering Fort Worden.
Maps for both walks are available at the registration point at Subway Restaurant, 1300 Water St., across from the entrance to the ferry terminal.
All walkers must sign up.
The walks are free unless participants are members of the AVA American Volkssport Association.
Walkers can carpool from Sequim. They must meet at 8:45 a.m. at the QFC parking lot at 990 E. Washington St.
