WEEKEND: Concerts in the Woods series to feature Claudia Nygaard tonight in Coyle

NOTE: “Today” and “tonight” refer to Friday, July 29.

COYLE — Folk and country musician Claudia Nygaard will perform tonight at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center as part of the ongoing Concerts in the Woods series.

“This next show with Claudia Nygaard promises to be a most entertaining evening with song, story telling and humor mixed in,” said Norm Johnson, Coyle Concerts founder.

Nygaard will be accompanied by guitarist Moe Dixon.

“Moe is an Americana musician and is best known for his masterful guitar playing and powerful vocals,” Johnson said.

“Sometimes they call their duo, The Nygaard-Dixon Line.”

The performance is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the community center, 923 Hazel Point Road.

Admission to the all-ages show is by donation.

Complimentary cookies and coffee will be offered at intermission.

Nygaard

Straddling the fence between folk and country, Nygaard delivers songs that are heartfelt, humorous, scrappy and sensual, according to her website.

Her latest CD “Let The Storm Roll In” rose to No. 1 on the Cashbox Roots/Country chart and to No. 8 on the Folk DJ chart.

Nygaard has toured in all 50 states and performed in nine foreign countries, according to her website, appearing at more than 200 fairs and festivals.

She currently is recording a children’s musical and working on a new album.

Dixon

One of the top solo artists in the country, according to his website, Dixon specializes in finger-style and ragtime guitar.

By the age of 25, Dixon had gained national recognition for those skills through his contributions to the children’s group Rosen, Shontz and Dixon.

Since then, he’s written themes to Bob Hope specials and Warren Miller ski movies, and even performed with the Wheeling Symphony and the West Suburban Symphony of Chicago, according to his website.

Throughout his 30-plus years as a performer, he has shared the stage with John Denver, Michael Johnson, Little River Band, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Three Dog Night and Buddy Guy.

The community center is located at the southern tip of the Toandos Peninsula and is operated by the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation District with help from area residents.
